For the 1st time in World Cup 2006, I watched the entire match between Germany and Argentina till about 2 am this morning. First half of the game was quite boring but the excitement came in the second half. Two equally matched teams but I believe that if they continue to play even after extra time, the Latinos will eventually win. I felt they are in control and they play better. One interesting scene I observed was how Oliver Kahn was "encouraging" Jens Lehmann with an assuring handshake, pat on the shoulder, some conversations and a warm smile just before the penalty kicks took place. This paints me a beautiful picture of mentoring. How wonderful to see it happening everywhere even on the soccer field and especially their jubiliant faces when Lehnmann did a great job. Brought to my mind how important for us to continue in mentoring spiritually!
You may be surprised that I am watching soccer and am even aware of the various players' names. Well, I managed to develop a little interest in soccer during the last World Cup in Asia (Japan and Korea to be more precise) four years ago. I was literally sitting with Clem (then P5) watching the various matches in decent timings during June school holidays. We had put up a chart where we recorded the scores of various matches. It was Clem who "educated" me about the game and the various renowned footballers. One of my personal favourites is Luis Fugo and am glad to note that he is still playing in this World Cup. Yeah, tonight at 11 pm, Portugal will be playing against England. I am cheering for Portugal for sure. Are you aware that there is this song that is titled "England wins the World Cup"? I have been hearing it umpteen times as it was being played over Class 95FM. Quite funny cos players like David Beckam, Wayne Rooney, etc were mentioned in the song. Personally, I don't think England can win the Cup. Well let's see what the Brits can do tonight.
